Welcome to Men’s Tennis Center! In this edition, we will be recapping the major results and notable storylines from the recent ATP tournament held in Miami starting on March 20, 2024.

Miami (ATP 1000)

Champion: Jannik Sinner [2] (13th career title)
Runner-Up: Grigor Dimitrov [11]
Final Summary:
  • Sinner def. Dimitrov 6-3 6-1 in the final, with the match lasting 1 hour and 13 minutes.

  • Sinner was dominant all week, losing 7 games or fewer in every match except for his Round of 32 win over Tallon Griekspoor [25] 5-7 7-5 6-1.

  • Following the result, Sinner surpasses Carlos Alcaraz to reach a new career-high ranking of #2.

  • Dimitrov's run to the final amidst a nightmarish draw was remarkable. He recorded three consecutive upset victories starting in the Round of 16 over Hubert Hurkacz [8], Carlos Alcaraz [1], and Alexander Zverev [4].

  • Dimitrov re-enters the Top 10 with a ranking of #9 following the result. This is the first time he has been ranked in the Top 10 since 2018.

Other Tournament Notes:
  • Two young, unseeded players (Tomas Machac & Fabian Marozsan) made notable quarter-final runs:

    • Machac recorded wins over Darwin Blanch [WC], Andrey Rublev [5], Andy Murray, and Matteo Arnaldi. As a result, he now reaches a career-high ranking of #43.

    • Marozsan recorded wins over Aleksandar Kovacevic [Q], Holger Rune [6], Alexei Popyrin, and Alex de Minaur [9]. As a result, he now reaches a career-high ranking of #38.

  • Stefanos Tsitsipas [10] was upset in his Round of 64 against Denis Shapovalov 6-2 6-4. Tsitsipas struggled both serving and returning in the match against Shapovalov, who himself is still looking to recover his form as he returns to the tour from injuries.

  • Tommy Paul [12] was forced to retire from his Round of 64 match due to an ankle injury shortly after winning the first set against Martin Damm [WC].
